Bali Driver Seminyak · south Bali

A private Ubud day that ends at Tegenungan

Your own car and driver-guide from Bali Driver Seminyak take you round the Ubud classics, from a village house in Batuan to the Monkey Forest, the rice terraces and the springs at Tirta Empul, and finish with an hour at Tegenungan Waterfall. Pick it for the track record: 17,707 Viator reviews at 5.0, far more than any other tour that stops at the falls.

Ubud Private Tour: Rice Terraces, Temples & Waterfalls

About this experience

One listing, two very different products. Transport Only gets you the car, the driver-guide, water and hotel pickup, and you pay every gate yourself, in cash. All-Inclusive Ubud Private Tour adds the entrance fees, lunch at d'Alas, the Ubud jungle swing and what the listing calls a cultural and spiritual experience. The $38 from-price is the lowest figure across both options and all group sizes. That makes it the Transport Only end, for a bigger group. All-Inclusive costs more, and a couple pays more per head than a group of five: prices are tiered by group size, and Viator shows your real figure once you pick the date, the option and the number of travellers.

The route is the standard Ubud loop. An hour in Batuan, where guests describe a visit to a traditional Balinese house. Then 90 minutes at the Sacred Monkey Forest, an hour at Tegallalang, a long lunch with the swing at d'Alas, 90 minutes at Tirta Empul and, last of all, an hour at Tegenungan. Add the stops up and you get eight hours before a single minute of driving, so expect a full day or a guide who trims as you go. Tegenungan coming last is good news. The tour groups that pour in from about 11 am have mostly gone by late afternoon.

Three caveats. The listing promises no swim, which is honest: whether you get into the pool is up to the staff at the waterfall on the day (more in our swimming guide). The listing calls the tour stroller accessible, but the 170 to 200 steps down to the pool are not. And the guides adjust the day freely: one 5-star recap lists Ulu Petanu Waterfall and no Tegenungan at all. If the big waterfall is the point for you, say so when the driver confirms.

  • 17,707 Viator reviews averaging 5.0, the most of any tour here
  • An hour at Tegenungan as the last stop, when the crowds thin
  • 90 minutes each at the Monkey Forest and Tirta Empul
  • Driver-guides who double as phone photographers
  • Pickup from your hotel, villa, the port or the airport

How the day runs

  1. MorningPickup and Batuan

The driver collects you at the time you chose. First comes Batuan, about an hour, where guests describe a look round a traditional Balinese house.

  2. 90 minSacred Monkey Forest

Macaques, moss-covered temples and banyan trees. The gate is IDR 130,000 per adult on Transport Only. Leave sunglasses and snacks in the car.

  3. 60 minTegallalang Rice Terrace

Walk down into the terraces. Booths ask IDR 15,000 to 20,000 and farmers at the path crossings ask small donations.

  4. About 2 hLunch and the jungle swing

On All-Inclusive: lunch at d'Alas and the Ubud jungle swing. On Transport Only you buy your own lunch, and a swing package around Tegallalang runs about IDR 250,000 to 400,000.

  5. 90 minTirta Empul

The spring temple at Tampaksiring. Everyone wears a sarong and sash; the gate is IDR 75,000 if your option doesn't cover it.

  6. 60 minTegenungan Waterfall

170 to 200 steps down to the pool, about ten minutes each way, then the drive back to your hotel.

This tour was perfect. Dangin was a great guide, really flexible and accommodating, and excellent at helping us capture good photos along the way. This 8 hour private tour is a great way to get to know Bali when you only have limited time but want to see some of the very best sites. [...]

Bali was experiencing a brief shortage of fuel because of the fighting in the mid east, but our driver / guide “J” planned everything perfectly. He was in a fuel line at 4 am and waited 2 hour so we could get everything accomplished. [...]

Tips before you book

  • If you want the swing anyway, price All-Inclusive first. On Transport Only the four main gates alone come to about IDR 250,000 a head, before lunch or a swing.
  • Tell the driver at confirmation that Tegenungan is a must. These guides reshuffle stops on request, which cuts both ways.
  • Wear swimwear under your clothes and sandals with grip. The steps are wet and mossy after rain.
  • Carry small rupiah notes for parking, toilets (some charge IDR 5,000) and the swing and nest vendors on the way down, who set their own prices.
  • Staying in Nusa Dua or Kuta? Ask for an early pickup. Guests on other Ubud tours report an hour or more each way in traffic.

Frequently asked questions

Is $38 the price of the All-Inclusive option?

No. $38 is the lowest per-person figure across both options and all group sizes, which is Transport Only for a bigger group. All-Inclusive, with entrance fees, lunch at d'Alas and the jungle swing, costs more, and two travellers pay more each than five. Viator shows the exact price once you choose the option and group size.

Does this tour pay the Tegenungan entrance fee?

Only on All-Inclusive. On Transport Only you pay IDR 30,000 per adult and IDR 15,000 per child in cash at the gate, and the same goes for the Monkey Forest, Tegallalang and Tirta Empul. The entrance fee guide has every figure.

Can you swim at Tegenungan on this tour?

Sometimes. You get 60 minutes there, and swimming is allowed only in the marked part of the pool when staff open it. After rain, and through much of November to March, it is often closed. Bring swimwear, but don't plan the day around a swim.

How long is the day?

8 to 10 hours. The six stops add up to eight hours on their own, so most days run long, and a pickup from Nusa Dua, Jimbaran or Canggu adds more time in the car.
