Choose your Tegenungan Waterfall tour
In the centre, the private Ubud tour with more reviews than any other here. Either side, a day of three
waterfalls with every fee paid, and the Ubud highlights with the jungle swing included. Every card opens a full tour page.
Three waterfalls in one private day: the light shafts of Tukad Cepung, the jungle pool at Tibumana, then the big drop at Tegenungan. Entry fees and lunch are in the price.
Your own car and driver-guide for the classic Ubud loop, with an hour at Tegenungan. The $38 is the Transport Only end; All-Inclusive adds entry fees, lunch and a jungle swing.
What's included
Private car and driver-guide
Hotel pickup and drop-off
Entry fees, lunch and swing (All-Inclusive option)
The full Ubud highlight reel with the jungle swing ticket and every entry fee included, plus 45 minutes at Tegenungan. Pricier, but nothing to pay at the gates on the day.
Three questions sort it out. Do you want waterfalls or the Ubud sights? Do you want the gate fees paid in
advance or in cash on the day? And how much time do you want at Tegenungan itself?
All ten are private, with hotel pickup in Ubud and most of south Bali, and free cancellation up to
24 hours before. Prices are per person for the largest group size, so two travellers pay more per head. The gate fee at
Tegenungan is IDR 30,000 (about $2) if your option does not cover it.
Before you book
Ten kilometres from Ubud, two hundred steps down.
Tegenungan is a single broad drop of roughly 15 metres on the Petanu River, in Kemenuh village south of Ubud. You pay at
the top, pass the cafés and the photo swings, and walk down about 170 to 200 concrete steps to a wide pool full of spray.
It is one of the busiest waterfalls in Bali because it is one of the easiest to reach: low down, close to Ubud, open from
6:30 in the morning.
The part that varies between tours is what the price covers. The cheapest options are transport only, and
you pay each gate in cash. Others include every ticket, lunch and a jungle swing. And a swim is never certain: the staff
open or close the water on the day, and after rain it stays closed. Read the option name, not the photo.
60
Minutes most tours give you at Tegenungan. That is enough to go
down, feel the spray, maybe swim, and climb back up without rushing. The custom day gives 30.

Clearest from April to October; brown and wild after rain.
01
Can I swim?
Only in the marked area, and only when staff open it. Often closed from November to March.
02
Is entry included?
On inclusive options, yes. On transport-only, bring IDR 30,000 in cash per adult.
03
How hard is it?
About ten minutes down, longer back up in the heat. Fine for most, tough on bad knees.
04
Do I need a tour?
No. Grab gets you there; the ride back is the harder part. A driver waits.

Eight to ten hours door to door on most tours, with hotel pickup. This is the usual shape of it.

Every tour here picks you up at your hotel, so you never need to find it. Going alone is easy too: Grab and Gojek
drop you at the gate. Getting a ride back from this far out is the weak spot, which is what a driver who waits is for.
By scooter, you need a valid licence with an international permit and a helmet, by law and by Bali's tourist rules.

★★★★★
Went solo and had a great driver/guide, perfect day seeing the waterfalls. Please note if coming from Kuta the drive there is at least an hour due to traffic both ways.
★★★★★
It was extremely well organised with Kadek picking us up in Seminyak and taking us to the ATV at Ubud and returning us. The ATVs were excellent for all of us with teenagers.
Your day, your route
Rather plan it yourself? Hire a driver
No fixed itinerary: a car and driver for the day, and Tegenungan goes wherever you put it.
A car with an English-speaking driver for 10 to 11 hours, parking and water included. There is no set itinerary, so put Tegenungan first, before the tour groups, and plan the rest around it.
Almost every Ubud day tour stops at Tegenungan, and the listings all look the same. They are not.
Here is how to read them.
The waterfall
Tegenungan is where the Petanu River, which starts in the Batur highlands, drops off a rock shelf in Kemenuh village.
Most of Bali's big waterfalls are up in the mountains, two hours away. This one sits about 90 metres above sea level,
10 km from Ubud and an hour from the beach towns, which explains the crowds. The east bank has its own entrance and
name, Blangsinga, and a 200-metre glass bridge now spans the gorge, with a separate ticket of about IDR 250,000.
Locals treat the river as sacred. Next to the falls is a small holy spring temple, Beji Tirta Merta, where families come for
purification rites. When a ceremony is on, that corner closes to visitors. Give it room.
The way down is concrete steps and handrails; the way up is the workout.
The steps
From the ticket booth it is about 170 to 200 steps to the pool. Ten minutes down and longer back up, with
a stop or two in the heat. Shops, cafés and the photo swings line the top. Most people manage it fine. If your knees
hate stairs, the viewpoint at the top gives you the whole waterfall without the climb, and a tour still makes sense for the
other stops.
The honest small print: "swim at the waterfall" in a listing is a hope, not a promise. The staff
at the pool open and close the water on the day, and from November to March it is often closed. Swim only in the marked
area, never under the falls. Our swimming guide has the rules.
Tour, driver or Grab?
You can do Tegenungan alone. A Grab from Ubud drops you at the gate in half an hour, and the ticket is IDR 30,000.
The catch is the return: drivers are less keen to wait out here, and the next sights are in the other direction. A tour
or a day driver fixes that, with a car that waits, hotel pickup and the Monkey Forest, Tegallalang and Tirta Empul on the
same day. Check what your option covers. On transport-only prices you pay each gate yourself, and the Monkey Forest alone
is now IDR 130,000.
Every tour here is private: one car, one driver-guide, only your group.
Timing it
Be there at 6:30 or at least before 9 am. By 11 the coaches and the private cars have all arrived, and the pool edge
turns into a queue for photos. Afternoons after 4 pm are calmer again. Season matters as much as the hour: from April to
October the water runs clearer and you have the best chance of a swim. In the rainy months the falls are louder and
browner, which some people love, and the steps are slick.
A calm dry-season day, with the swimming area open.
Straight answers to what people ask most about Tegenungan Waterfall.
How much is the Tegenungan Waterfall entrance fee?
IDR 30,000 for adults and IDR 15,000 for children at the main Kemenuh entrance in 2026, cash only (about $2). Older blogs still say IDR 20,000. Parking is a few thousand rupiah or included, and the Blangsinga side on the far bank sells its own ticket. Details in the entrance fee guide.
Can you swim at Tegenungan Waterfall?
Sometimes. Swimming is allowed only in the marked part of the pool, and only when the staff open it. They close the water when the current rises, which happens a lot after rain and from November to March. Never swim under the falls. A tour that promises a swim cannot guarantee one: see the swimming guide.
How many steps are there at Tegenungan Waterfall?
Around 170 to 200 concrete steps, depending on who counts and where you start. Going down takes about ten minutes; coming back up in the humidity takes longer, with rests. There are handrails, but the steps get slippery after rain.
How far is Tegenungan Waterfall from Ubud?
About 10 to 11 km south of central Ubud, 25 to 40 minutes by road. From Seminyak or Kuta, plan on an hour or more each way in traffic. It sits in Kemenuh village, Gianyar, not in Ubud town.
Do I need a tour to visit Tegenungan?
No. Grab and Gojek drop you at the entrance, but a ride back from this far out is less certain. A tour or driver adds a car that waits, hotel pickup and the next stops on the same day. Compare the options in tour, driver or Grab.
Are entry fees included in Tegenungan tours?
It depends on the option you book, not the tour name. The cheapest prices usually mean "transport only": you pay IDR 30,000 at Tegenungan and the other gates yourself. The waterfall day and the jungle swing tour include all fees; the custom day trip includes none. Each tour page says which.
What is the best time to visit Tegenungan Waterfall?
Right at opening (6:30 am) or before 9 am, and in the dry season from April to October, when the water is clearer and the pool is open more often. The busiest hours are about 11 am to 3 pm. More in the timing guide.
What should I wear to Tegenungan?
Swimwear under light clothes, and sandals or shoes with grip: flip-flops slide on the wet steps. Bring a dry bag for the phone, because the spray soaks everything. Pack a sarong or cover your shoulders and knees for the temples later in the day. Full list in the what to wear guide.
Is the Bali tourist levy included in tour prices?
No. The IDR 150,000 levy is paid once per trip, per person, online through Love Bali or at payment points. No tour on this site includes it. See the 2026 levy post.
How much do these tours really cost for two people?
More per head than the "from" price. Viator prices these private tours by group size, and the from-price is the cheapest tier, for a bigger group. Pick your date and two travellers in the calendar to see the real figure before you pay.
Can I cancel a Tegenungan Waterfall tour?
Every tour on this site cancels for a full refund up to 24 hours before the start. The listings warn that weather can change the route, so if rain closes the pool or a gorge, ask your driver for another stop.
