Ubud Monkey Forest ticket price 2026

The Sacred Monkey Forest put its prices up on 1 April 2026. It is now the dearest gate on a Tegenungan day, so it pays to know which tour option covers it.

Ubud's Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary raised its entry fees on 1 April 2026, with immediate effect. A foreign adult now pays IDR 130,000, about $8, more than four times the Tegenungan ticket.

Most private Ubud tours stop at both. Here are the new prices, the rules inside, and which tours on this site pay the gate for you.

The quick answer

Foreign visitors pay IDR 130,000 per adult and IDR 100,000 per child aged 3 to 12; Indonesians pay IDR 90,000 and 60,000; under 3s are free. The forest is open 9 am to 6 pm, last entry 5 pm. The ticket is included on the all-inclusive or fees-included options of most tours here, not on the cheapest transport-only prices, and the ATV combo visits Sangeh, a different forest.

How much is the Ubud Monkey Forest ticket in 2026?

IDR 130,000 for foreign adults and IDR 100,000 for children aged 3 to 12. Under 3s go free.

The Bali Sun reported the new prices on the day they took effect, 1 April 2026. The sanctuary said the increase "supports our ongoing conservation efforts, habitat maintenance, and ensures the well-being of the monkeys living freely in the forest."

Payment is easy: QRIS, Visa, Mastercard, JCB, UnionPay, American Express or cash, and tickets can be booked online. That makes it one of the few gates on an Ubud day where you do not need rupiah notes.

What does the new price add to a Tegenungan day tour?

For a foreign adult, the gates at Tegenungan, the Monkey Forest and Tirta Empul now add up to IDR 235,000, about $14. The Monkey Forest is more than half of it.

On a transport-only booking you pay these at each booth. A family of two adults and two children aged 5 to 12 would hand over IDR 800,000, about $49, at the gates on that loop. That is the gap between a $24 to $28 transport-only from-price and the fees-included options of the same tours.

Tour prices are per person for the largest group size and move with the season; couples pay more per head. Our entrance fee guide breaks down the rest.

Which Tegenungan tours include the Monkey Forest ticket?

Most include it on their all-inclusive or fees-included option. The cheapest from-prices are usually transport only, and the ATV combo goes to Sangeh instead.

Why does the ATV combo visit Sangeh instead?

Because it is built around a quad-bike park outside Ubud. Its monkey stop is the Sangeh Monkey Forest, a separate forest in Badung regency, not the Sacred Monkey Forest.

The ATV and waterfall combo gives you about two hours on a quad bike, lunch, showers and towels, then Tegenungan on the "with Ubud Tour" options and an hour at Sangeh. The listing includes the Sangeh entry. It is a real monkey forest with its own temple and tall trees, and you still see macaques up close.

If the Ubud sanctuary itself is the point, pick another tour. If you want mud and monkeys in one day, this is the one.

What are the rules inside the Monkey Forest?

No food, drinks or plastic bags; never touch, feed or pick up a monkey; avoid eye contact; and keep loose items out of reach.

The forest covers 12.5 hectares and is home to about 1,054 long-tailed macaques in seven troops, with three temples run by the village of Padangtegal. The sanctuary's own guidelines are short:

  • Leave food, drinks and plastic bags outside; lockers are provided.
  • Do not touch, feed or try to pick up the monkeys. Trained staff do the feeding.
  • Avoid staring a monkey in the eye. If one jumps on you, walk slowly, do not run.
  • Hide sunglasses, earrings and anything that dangles.
  • Dress modestly, and watch the temples from the paths.

Bites mostly follow people breaking the feeding rule. If you are bitten or scratched, go to the on-site clinic, then see a doctor the same day about rabies shots.

When is the best time to visit the Monkey Forest on a tour day?

Right at 9 am or after 4 pm. Tour groups pack the paths from mid-morning to early afternoon.

On a private tour you can change the order. Ask the driver for Tegenungan first, when it opens at 6:30 am, then the Monkey Forest at 9. You beat the crowds at both and do the rice terraces and lunch in the busy middle of the day.

Plan 1 to 1.5 hours inside, two with photos. The forest closes for Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence, next on 8 March 2027. For booking with or without a driver, see tour, Grab or driver.
