Three waterfalls in one private day

Hire Bali Driver takes you to the cave at Tukad Cepung, the jungle pool at Tibumana and the wide drop at Tegenungan, an hour at each, with lunch on the way. Pick it if waterfalls are the whole point: every gate is paid, so you just walk down, look, and climb back up.

Bali Waterfalls: Tibumana, Tukad Cepung & Tegenungan

About this experience

This is the waterfall day with the fewest surprises at the gate. The listing includes all fees and taxes plus lunch, so the IDR 30,000 at Tukad Cepung, IDR 25,000 at Tibumana and IDR 30,000 at Tegenungan are covered. Those three tickets come to about IDR 85,000, roughly $5. Most of the money pays for the private minivan and eight hours of a driver's day. The $53 from-price is per person for the largest group tier; a couple pays more each, and the add-on options cost more again.

The order is right. Tukad Cepung comes first, and its light shafts show best from about 9 to 11 am with direct sun. The water in that cave is ankle- to knee-deep, there's no swimming, and the gorge closes when it floods, most often December to February. Tibumana has a pool where you may swim, and it's cold. Tegenungan comes last, in the afternoon, and there the staff decide on the day whether the pool opens at all.

Expect a workout. Every waterfall sits at the bottom of a staircase. Tukad Cepung's takes about 20 minutes of steep steps, and guests report rocks, cold water and one stretch you can only pass by wading. The listing asks for moderate fitness, sets the minimum age at 7, and its adult band stops at 65. Four upgrade options swap in Heaven's Gate and Tirta Gangga, the Ubud Monkey Forest, snorkelling at Blue Lagoon, or Tegallalang with a swing.

  • Three waterfalls, 60 minutes at each
  • Every gate fee and lunch paid in advance
  • Tukad Cepung first, in the morning light
  • Tibumana's pool, where a swim is allowed
  • Add-ons: Heaven's Gate, snorkelling, the Monkey Forest or a swing

How the day runs

  1. 8 amPickup

Guests report 8 am pickups and a 5:30 pm return. From Kuta or Nusa Dua, allow an hour or more just to reach the Ubud area.

  2. 60 minTukad Cepung

Steep stairs into a gorge, then a short wade into the cave where light falls through a gap in the rock. Ankle- to knee-deep; no swimming.

  3. 60 minTibumana

A tall single waterfall into a jungle pool. Swimming is allowed and the water is cold.

  4. MiddayLunch

In the price. Guests describe quiet local restaurants off the tourist strip.

  5. 60 minTegenungan

The widest and busiest of the three: 170 to 200 steps down to the pool, and a wade only if staff open the water.

  6. Late afternoonBack to your hotel

Through Ubud traffic, which guests call horrendous. Don't book an early dinner.

What guests say

★★★★★

Superb trip visiting 3 waterfalls, rice fields, big swing and the coffee plantations. [...] He paid for entrance to all activities and even took us to a better and quieter (more peaceful) place for lunch. [...] (Take your crocs, these are essential - flip flops and slider not good enough!)

We were picked up from our hotel at 8am and we were back by 5:30pm. We never felt rushed as it was private trip. [...] Looots of steep stairs to the waterfalls so not suitable for unfit people or people with eg. knee problems. Ps, take flipflops/watershoes, one waterfall can only be accessed through walking in water.

We did the snorkel add on at Blue Lagoon (which was awesome) and started our tour at 9:30. I think we should have started at 8 at the latest because by the time we got to the 3rd waterfall it was dark out. The 930 time would be fine without the add on though.

Private tour guide Gede excellent, highly recommend. Went above and beyond expectation. Have to be fit, very steep down and climb to first waterfall, others slightly less arduous. Water vey cold. [...]

Tips before you book

  • Start at 8 am, earlier with an add-on. One guest who left at 9:30 with snorkelling reached the third waterfall in the dark.
  • Wear water shoes or Crocs. Guests say flip-flops and sliders don't cut it.
  • Swimwear under your clothes and a towel in the bag: Tibumana is the likeliest swim of the three.
  • Put your phone in a dry bag. Near the pool at Tegenungan the spray soaks everything.
  • In the rainy season, ask the driver the evening before whether Tukad Cepung is open. Guests report swapping a closed or slippery falls for another.

Frequently asked questions

Are the entry fees included on this waterfall tour?

Yes, on every option. The listing includes all fees and taxes plus lunch, so you pay nothing at Tukad Cepung, Tibumana or Tegenungan. Alcohol, tips and the Bali levy are extra.

What does a couple pay?

More than $53 each. $53 is the per-person rate for the largest group tier, and two travellers fall into a dearer tier. The add-on options cost more again. Viator shows the exact figure once you pick the option and group size.

Can you swim at the waterfalls?

At Tibumana, yes, in a cold pool. At Tukad Cepung, no: the water is ankle- to knee-deep. At Tegenungan, only in the marked area and only when staff open it, which they often don't after rain. The swimming guide explains the rules.

How fit do you need to be?

Moderately fit. Tukad Cepung takes about 20 minutes of steep steps and Tegenungan has 170 to 200. The minimum age is 7, and the listing advises against the tour for pregnant travellers and anyone with back or heart problems.
